xB2 Comparison
Having owned the 04-06 xB and now the 08 xB, I wanted to share some personal thoughts on the similarities and differences.

Basics
  • Costs a little more but well worth it, a base 06 was about $14k as opposed to 08 at $17k
  • Much more of a car, heavier, longer, & wider; but way more power. 108hp vs. 158hp
  • Feels more stable, more comfortable, more car-like than sub-compact
  • Lots of room inside, seats & cabin feel bigger and passengers doesn't feel as cramped
  • Ipod connection is standard, very bright & attractive projector headlights, LED signal side mirrors, very cool separate digital gauge cluster w/range, outside temp., and average mph
  • Optional navigation from Alpine, most dealers are offering a moonroof option
  • Huge list of factory options and accessories through Scion and Scion Optimized
  • Share TC powerplant, TRD TC supercharger will fit but not a direct bolt-on due to differences in factory wiring
With this new xB, I think Scion is moving a little away from its initial target of the youth market, as this appeals to drivers of all ages. Its bigger and more substantial of a car than the older toaster looks of the box. Despite being longer and wider, it is still easy to part and fun to drive. My only gripe is that the gas mileage is not as good. I've gotten up to 32 mpg on the old box, this new one is averaging about 24 mpg but I am still in the break-in period and have read that my average mpg will show significant increases as the engine gets broken in. The styling has an either hate it or love it feel, some people can't stand it, but I've always been a fan of boxy cars.
